Calls for more musical workshops
A leading musical charity is claiming that more than 1,000 school children in Bude are missing out on musical learning opportunities.

Sound Waves South West is blaming the problem on a lack of funding for workshops and are appealing for support from local people.

It comes as an important part of this year's Bude Festival of Music involving local schools has had to be cancelled.

The 10-day event at the Castle Grounds gets under way on Saturday evening.

The charity says all funding applications to bring the London Orphean Brass Quintet to schools for a series of special workshops, have been rejected.

In the future it says it will be appealing to local businesses and philanthropists to help the nine schools which have missed out.

Organisers say this year's festival will offer a wide musical diversity although the school workshops of previous years will not be held.
