The writer of a book which showcases Cornish food is celebrating after it won a prestigious book award.

Gourmet Cornwall by Carol Trewin has won the best local cookbook award published in English in the UK in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Previous winners of the award include the culinary celebrities Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Rick Stein.

The book, which contains photographs by Adam Woolfitt, is Ms Trewin's first food book.

'Great credit'

"Although this book started out as much more than a local cookery book, winning this award is a great credit to the Cornish chefs who contributed to the book, who have recognised and are showcasing the high quality food and drink produced in Cornwall, " said Ms Trewin.

The book looks at the people who grow and produce speciality food in the county and includes recipes from top chefs and a list of suppliers.

Gourmet Cornwall will now go through to the final round of the Gourmand Awards, the results will be announced in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in May 2006.
