Council rejects Stein hotel plan

Rick Stein: "Design issues" thwarted hotel plan
Plans by TV chef Rick Stein to expand his hotel in Padstow in Cornwall have been rejected by councillors.

Mr Stein wanted to demolish a building on land at Mill Road so he could erect an annexe onto the St Petroc's Hotel.

He wanted to build a part single, part two-storey annexe which included four holiday suites, two of which would have had disabled access.

But North Cornwall councillors voted to refuse Mr Stein permission to carry out the work.

The proposal had attracted opposition in the town, with local residents complaining it would look out of place, increase the risk of flooding and generate extra traffic.

A spokesperson for the council said the application was turned down because of "design issues" and because it was felt to be an "inappropriate commercial use" in a residential area.
