St Just mining week events begin
Kenidjack by Adam Sharp
Kenidjack valley is one of the mines which has been improved.
A week of special events celebrating the mining coast of West Cornwall began on Saturday.

The aim is to encourage people to explore the more remote seaside areas and learn about local history.

The events have been organised by the On the Edge festival together with the St. Just Heritage Area Regeneration Project and the National Trust.

Among the highlights of the week will be the chance to drive the Levant Beam winding engine.

There will also be guided walks intended to bring alive the history of the Levant and Geevor tin mines where a number of fatal underground accidents occurred.

Other highlights include interactive displays about local ecology and art exhibitions with one artist working with children in nearby rock pools as part of a sea creature workshop.
