Murder police appeal for walkers
Scene of the death at West Downs
Mrs Roddam's body was found in a field behind her home
Police investigating the murder of 74-year-old Cornish woman are appealing for two people seen in the area at the time to come forward.

Joan Roddam was found murdered in a field behind her home at West Downs, near Delabole, on Saturday, 8 November.

A post-mortem examination revealed she died from asphyxiation and suffocation, but there were no signs of a struggle or excessive violence.

Police say they would like a woman seen with a pushchair and a man with a shopping trolley and a dog who were both seen walking in the area.

The only way to eliminate them from the enquiry is to speak to them
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Dunne
Mrs Roddam's body was discovered after a friend of the family reported they had been unable to contact her.

A police team based at Launceston, headed by Detective Chief Inspector Dave Dunne, has seen 600 people and taken more than 300 statements during its investigations.

Officers would like to speak with a woman who was seen walking in the direction of Delabole, about a mile the Pendoggett side of West Downs, at about 1730 GMT on Saturday, 8 November. She was dressed in dark clothing and had a pushchair.

They also wish to identify a man was seen walking in the direction of Delabole from Pendoggett at about 1715 GMT on Friday, 7 November.

He was wearing dark clothing and was pushing a shopping trolley. He also had a black and white Collie dog with him.

Detective Chief Inspector Dunne said: "We have interviewed a large number of people and everyone we speak to is potentially a very important witness.

"We do know that these two people were in the area at the time, but the only way to eliminate them from the enquiry is to speak to them.

"I would also still ask anyone who has any information, however small it may seem, to please get in touch with us".

Murderer known

Police said there did not appear to be any sign of forced entry at the bungalow, so they think Mrs Roddam knew who her murderer was.

Mrs Roddam's husband died six years ago and she lived alone with her three cats.

Meanwhile, a reward of £10,000 to help catch the killers of a Cornish couple has failed to produce fresh information.

Graham and Carol Fisher were beaten and shot several times at their bungalow next to the Perch Garage near Wadebridge on 5 November.

The reward, the biggest which can be offered by Crimestoppers organisation, was put up on Tuesday, 2 December.

So far, no one has called the confidential telephone line in connection with the deaths.
