Protest over 'blocked' Cambridgeshire waterway

Horeway channel blocked
The channel becomes unnavigable beyond Horseway lock

A group of narrowboat enthusiasts have held a protest on a Cambridgeshire waterway they claim is being neglected.

Boaters showed they have to scythe through rubbish and sludge to pass Horesway lock on the Forty Foot river, near Chatteris, and cannot go further.

They said the Environment Agency has failed to maintain a two mile-stretch between the lock and Welches Dam lock.

The Environment Agency said it could not comment but is spending millions of pounds in the Fens.

The Fens Waterways Link is the biggest waterways improvement project in Europe, it added.
