Chance to be choirboy for a day

Boys have been given the opportunity to be a choirboy for the day at Peterborough Cathedral.

Boys aged between six and eight years old can meet choristers, take part in activities and sing in a short service at the historic cathedral.

The event takes place on Saturday and parents can watch the service.

The cathedral is hosting the event in the hope it will encourage some of those taking part to develop a passion for singing.

A spokesperson said: "Being a chorister is one of the few occupations in which children can work alongside adults at a professional level, helping them to achieve musical excellence.

"It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and hundreds in this very city have treasured the experience and have gone on to enjoy a wide variety of professions with the skills, discipline and team ethic they learnt here as a chorister."

To book a place in advance contact the Peterborough Cathedral music department.
