The couple appealed on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire for the return of the rings
A couple who lost a bag containing their wedding rings and £431 set aside to pay for their big day had a pleasant surprise on Saturday morning.
Jane Walker was due to marry Adrian Wadey at All Saints Church in Huntingdon, but she was in such despair she was on the point of cancelling.
Then she contacted BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, which put out an appeal and the rings turned up in the post.
Ms Walker then found £200 of the money tucked away in a purse.
She said: "On Thursday afternoon we were in Huntingdon and went to pay for and collect our wedding rings.
"We also went into the bank to take out the last £200 of the £431 needed to pay the vicar for the church service.
"We drove to Peterborough for some last minute clothes shopping and spent about half an hour in one shop.
"When we were finished we realised we didn't have the bag with the rings and money."
Happy couple
Frantically they search the stores and lost property offices before contacting the police.
"Reluctantly we went back to the car and headed home, but on Friday we contacted BBC Radio Cambridgeshire who interviewed us on air and ran our plea for help throughout the day.
"Newspapers and other radio stations got in touch and quickly had our story on their web-sites and in print.
"We spoke to our vicar, Andrew Milton, who said the wedding would go ahead and we could sort out payment afterwards."
On Saturday morning they were still downhearted. The post arrived with a handful of cards and to the couple's great joy the wedding rings in an envelope with a short note - but no money.
"Words can't express how happy we were," Ms Walker said.
