Armed robber targets bookmakers

An armed robbery has taken place at a bookmakers in Cambridge.

A man wearing dark clothing and a balaclava entered Coral in Arbury Court on Tuesday night, carrying what is believed to be a handgun.

Three customers and a female member of staff were in the shop and the woman was threatened with the gun and forced to open a safe.

A police spokesman said the member of staff was extremely traumatised and the robber made off with an amount of cash.

Forensic investigations

Det Con Malcolm Wood said: "This was extremely traumatic for the member or staff, who has now been offered support.

"After leaving the shop the offender immediately turned right and ran down an alley.

"Crime scene investigators were at the scene last night and officers have carried out house-to-house enquiries.

"We will continue to take statements from witnesses today and would appeal for anyone who has information, but not yet spoken to police to make contact as soon as possible."
