College closes due to swine flu

A secondary school in Cambridgeshire has closed after health officials confirmed two cases of swine flu there.

The principal of Impington village College, near Cambridge, said he had been advised to shut for a week by the local authority.

In a letter to parents, Robert Campbell said: "I very much realise that this may cause significant inconvenience."

He said exams would take place as normal and that the school hoped to re-open on Tuesday 30 June.

Mr Campbell said: "I very much realise that this may cause significant inconvenience but hope you understand and appreciate the gravity of the situation.

"We hope to be able to reschedule the planned trips/visits that were due to take place this week."

It is the first secondary school in Cambridgeshire to close because of the virus.

Last week it was announced Burwell Primary School, near Newmarket, was to close until 25 June after three pupils tested positive.
