The scene of the shooting in Peterborough was cordoned off

A man has been injured in the hand by a single shot from a gun fired outside a convenience store near a school in Peterborough on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened in Scalford Grove and the area was cordoned off by officers who spoke to local residents.

The injured man went to Peterborough General Hospital for treatment.

Police are looking for three men who are described as black. Two wore balaclavas during the attack and the third a large hood.

Det Chief Inspector Donna Wass said: "There is no suggestion members of the public were at risk as the attackers targeted the injured man."

She has appealed for any other witnesses to contact her with information.

Parents collecting their children used a back entrance away from the incident scene.
