A vicar has told of the damage done to his Cambridgeshire church by two 15-year-old boys who let off fire extinguishers inside.
The Reverend Dr Donald McFadyen said a large part of Bassingbourn Parish Church was covered in dust, causing more than £1,000 damage.
Police are investigating but parishioners asked them not to press charges after the boys apologised.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said the inquiry was "ongoing".
Dr McFadyen said: "The whole of the main part of the church was covered in this fine dust.
"All the pews were covered, all the bibles were covered in dust. It was everywhere.
"It looked like a bomb had gone off."
He said the boys were seen running away from the church and when their parents found out they instructed them to return to the church to apologise.
The police spokeswoman said church officials had accepted the youngsters' apologies and asked officers not to press charges.
But she said the boys could still be told to appear before magistrates.
She said: "We understand that they have apologised but it isn't as simple as that.
"There was a lot of damage and our inquiry is still ongoing.
"No decision has yet been made but the boys could be charged or reprimanded."
