Vomiting bug shuts hospital wards

Eight wards at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge have been closed to visitors and new admissions after an outbreak of vomiting bug norovirus.

The hospital is now on the highest state of alert, which is Black.

A hospital spokesman said it is thought all the cases have come from people visiting the hospital.

"To protect our patients, it is very important that members of the public do not come to hospital if they have diarrhoea or are being sick," he said.

He added: "The best treatment for norovirus is to rest at home and drink plenty of fluids.

"If you are concerned or you have other health problems, speak to your GP or NHS Direct for advice."
