Child porn lecturer to work again

A Cambridge University academic convicted of possessing indecent images of children is set to return to work.

Nicholas Hammond, 45, admitted 15 counts of making, distributing and possessing indecent images of children at Cambridge Crown Court in July.

Hammond was given a suspended 12 months prison sentence and put on "special leave" from the university.

Now a spokesman has said Hammond will return to work as a reader in April but under strict conditions.

The spokesman said disciplinary procedures were underway and there would be a meeting on Friday for Cambridge University officials to express their views.

Hammond is a specialist in modern French theatre and had been working at Gonville and Caius College.

He was living in a flat in Queen's Road, Cambridge, when he first appeared before magistrates in May. The offences took place in Cambridge in 2006 and 2007.
