Smoke billows from scrapyard fire

A fire at a scrapyard has caused plumes of smoke to billow across homes in Cambridgeshire.

About 50 firefighters have been tackling the blaze at the metal recycling plant in Snailwell since 2150 BST on Wednesday.

The blaze was brought under control in the early hours but continues to burn, a fire service spokesman said.

Residents in the area have been advised by the fire service to keep windows and doors shut until the smoke dies down.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and a fire investigation is due to be carried out.
