Infection sees hospital ward shut

A ward at a Cambridgeshire hospital has been shut after a virus hit patients.

Peterborough District Hospital closed ward 3Y to new admissions after patients showed symptoms of a virus similar to the Norovirus.

The hospitals trust said it awaited confirmation that the cause was the winter vomiting bug and advised visitors to heed visiting restrictions.

The ward will reopen once it has been specially cleaned, Chris Wilkinson, the hospital's director of nursing, said.

"The two patients who have symptoms will remain in isolation until they are symptom-free," Mrs Wilkinson added.

"The trust has strict infection control and prevention procedures that are in place to minimise episodes of vomiting and diarrhoea."
