Eco-town proposals go on display

Proposals for an 8,000-home Eco-town at a greenfield site in Cambridgeshire have gone on public display.

The development at Hanley Grange, near the A11 and Duxford, is being backed by the supermarket Tesco.

Supporters of the plan have said the scheme would improve the severe lack of housing in and around Cambridge and could include 3,000 affordable homes.

But the Stop Hanley Grange group said it would be "an environmentally unfriendly blot on the landscape".

The plans says the development will include a secondary school, up to five primary schools, a health centre and a range of community facilities, shops and public spaces.

The scheme went on display at Sawston on Wednesday, and will be on show at Hinxton on Friday, Ickleton on Saturday and Sunday, and Duxford on Monday.
