A woman doused herself in petrol then set herself alight on a Cambridgeshire village green.
The woman then walked across Church Walk common in Farcet, near Peterborough, on Wednesday morning.
The 42-year-old mother was taken to Peterborough District Hospital where she later died.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said they were no longer investigating the matter, which has been handed to the coroner's office.
Neighbour June Leeder, 81, from Marshalls Way, who saw the incident from her lounge window, said: "It was like a horror film. I can't imagine the agony."
Another neighbour ran to the woman's aid, then attempted to put out the flames with a towel.
She said: "I tried to put out the flames and prop her up. Eventually the flames went out and she leant on me for five minutes until the ambulance arrived.
"There was nothing left of her. I don't know how she was living."
Formal identification is expected to take place on Monday.
