A husband and wife who are both obese are to undergo surgery to staple their stomachs on the same day.

Roy Glencross, from Peterborough, weighs 24 stone (152kg) and suffers from pain from his knees, which both need to be surgically replaced.

His 18-stone (115kg) wife Kate takes 13 pills daily for high blood pressure.

"I want to be active. I want to play with my grandchildren and walk on the beach but I can't... at the moment, " Mr Glencross said.

"If I can lose weight I may not need to have the knees replaced instantly, but it certainly would take a lot of pressure off them."

Staples help people to eat less as their stomachs become full with less food and this means they can lose weight.
