Lecturer faces child porn charges

A university language teacher accused of 18 child pornography charges has been bailed.

French lecturer Nicholas Hammond, 44, of Cambridge University, entered no plea when he appeared before magistrates in the city.

He is charged with possessing, making, and distributing indecent images of children during 2006 and 2007.

One charge alleges that Hammond had more than 1,600 indecent images of children in his possession.

Mr Hammond, a specialist in 17th century French thought and drama, is based at Gonville and Caius College.
