Pope contributes to priest appeal
Pope Benedict XVI
The Pope makes a personal contribution to an appeal
Pope Benedict XVI has made a personal donation to help keep a Catholic chaplain at Cambridge University.

The Pope has given 3,000 euros (nearly 2,000) to the Fisher House appeal for money to maintain the post held by Catholic priest Fr Alban McCoy.

He visited Cambridge in 1989 to deliver a lecture and stayed at the chaplaincy.

Fr McCoy said: "It is both encouraging and humbling to know that the Pope has shown such a personal interest in what happens at Fisher House."

In total 2m is needed to ensure the chaplaincy's future and 850,000 has been raised so far.
