Paedophile jailed after web sting
Barry Jacobs
Barry Jacobs, 36, groomed his daughter's friend over the web
An internet paedophile with a huge collection of pornography including "violent" images of child abuse has been jailed.

Father-of-two Barry Jacobs, 36, from Burwell in Cambridgeshire, was snared in a police sting operation and must serve at least three and half years.

At Cambridge Crown Court he admitted possession of more than 51,000 indecent photos and 137 videos of children.

Jacobs was caught exposing himself to a police officer posing as a young girl.

Police were alerted to Jacobs' activities by the mother of his daughter's friend who became suspicious.

A sting operation was subsequently set up over the internet.

Most troubling is the extreme violence and the sexual images of violent death of women and of bestiality
Judge Gareth Hawkesworth

After arrest he admitted exposing himself to one of his daughter's friends while grooming her over the web for three months.

In court he pleaded guilty to 16 counts of making indecent photographs.

His huge collection of adult pornography also included so-called "snuff movies" and videos of bestiality.

'Corrosive porn'

For two counts of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child, Jacobs was jailed for an indefinite period.

Judge Gareth Hawkesworth said: "Almost all of the indecent images were of girls aged about 11 and many images show young girls being subjected to bondage and extreme violence.

"Most troubling is the extreme violence and the sexual images of violent death of women and of bestiality.

"If ever there was a case that demonstrates the corrosive effects of porn this is it."

He was put on the sexual offenders register, forbidden from working with children indefinitely and banned from owning or possessing a laptop except for work.

He will be on licence for a minimum of 10 years after his release and will have to report to police at regular intervals for the rest of his life.
