Texts can be sent to the control centre in Cambridge
People in Cambridgeshire are being encouraged to take a leading role in the fight against crime with the launch of a mobile phone texting service.

From next month, members of the public in Cambridge, Ely and Soham will be able to send texts to the CCTV control room reporting anything suspicious.

The cameras can then zoom in on any incidence of anti-social behaviour.

CCTV manager Martin Beaumont said: "The public can now do something about the crime... in these areas."

The operators are urging the public to dial 999 in the first instance.
