3D maps used in accident clear-up
Reality Mapping
The maps can be used by accident investigators after an accident
A laser scanning system is being used by Cambridgeshire Police to help reduce congestion on the A14 after accidents.

The tool, designed by Cambridge-based Reality Mapping, scans the carriageways of the A14 between Trinity Foot and Bar Hill to create 3D maps.

It is the first time a force has used the device which can be used by accident investigators who will no longer have to measure the road.

It will also mean officers will not have to keep re-examining the scene.

Pc Steve Edwards, of the road policing unit, said: "The aim of this process is to create a 3D map that can be used by collision investigators and partner agencies."

The equipment will be fixed to a vehicle that will travel at 50 miles an hour scanning the road.
