Police target offenders on road
Police are cracking down on cyclists and motorists who flout road laws.

Officers are to start issuing £30 fixed penalty notices or court summonses to people in Cambridge.

The offences to be targeted are cycling on pavements, failure to have lights on their bikes, or cycle through traffic lights or "no entry signs".

Statistics for Cambridgeshire show one in 10 road casualties are cyclists and almost 50% happen in Cambridge - 44% are women aged between 19 and 23.

A police spokesman said that it was not just cyclists that are going to be targeted.

"Our officers will come down equally hard on drivers who don't stop at traffic lights or pelican crossings, or drive while talking on their mobile phones," he said.
