District council leader resigns
Derek Holley OBE
Derek Holley said he had no desire to go past his sell-by date
The leader of Huntingdonshire District Council has resigned from his post after 16 years.

Derek Holley OBE, 63, said too many politicians continued to work well past their "sell-by date" and he had no plans to fall into the same category.

The Conservative councillor for Huntingdon East had a heart procedure last month and said he had not recovered as quickly as he had hoped.

The father-of-three will hand over the leadership on 7 December.

Mr Holley also thanked his fellow councillors for their support and loyalty.

He will continue as councillor for Huntingdon East until elections next May.
