Opposition to cement works plans
Barrington cement works
The cement works has been in production since the 1920s
A cement-making company is taking to the road to try to win over people opposed to its planned expansion.

The cement works at Barrington has been in operation since the 1920s, and owner Cemex says it needs to expand to ensure the future of the plant.

Some local people say they are concerned about an increase in traffic, the effect on the skyline and burning waste emissions.

The company is now using a mobile roadshow to explain its plans.

Bob Millard, of Cemex, said: "The proposed development of the Barrington works will secure its future for the next 40 years.

"That'll secure local jobs and produce the high quality cement Barrington has been producing for 80 years."

The company will apply for planning permission in November, and a decision is expected by summer 2006.
