Doctor dies in New Zealand lake
A 25-year-old British doctor who had been working in New Zealand has died after an accident in a lake.

John Fasham, 25, of Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, died after jumping into Lake Karapiro, Waikato, in North Island on Monday, friends said.

Dr Fasham, who was a member of the Godmanchester Baptist Church, began working at Waikato Hospital in August.

Friends tried to help him but his body was later found in the lake. He is thought to have drowned.

A spokeswoman for Godmanchester Baptist Church gave details of his death on Wednesday.

She said Dr Fasham's family was waiting for his remains to be returned to Britain.
