Road scheme tackles rat runners
Rat runners and fast drivers are being tackled in a new road scheme designed to ease traffic in Girton, Cambs.

The changes include a 20mph speed limit outside the village school during lesson hours and new speed bumps placed along Cambridge Road and Girton Road.

The works cost £300,000 and are provided out of a £4m government grant to ease traffic in the area.

In a questionnaire sent to villagers by local councillors, over 90% were said to have favoured the changes.

"It is hoped the project will change the village. It's been quite widely advertised," said the deputy chair of Girton Parish Council, Helen Wilson.

"There was a public exhibition which well over 200 people attended and completed questionnaires. We took all the comments on board.

"We obviously couldn't please everyone but we think the scheme we've come up with, which was in consultation with the county council's engineers, should satisfy about 90% of people in the village," Ms Wilson added.
