Residents worried by housing plan
People living in the Stukeley area near Huntingdon are worried about the impact of up to 1,000 new houses being built close to their homes.

Developers are also planning to build a school and community centre.

Stukeley Meadows Residents' Association said the development would increase traffic on the busy Spittles Interchange and cause further flooding.

The council said it will consult with local bodies, including The Stukeleys Parish Council and the Highways Agency.

Although no formal planning application has been submitted yet by the developers, locals want to raise people's awareness of the issue.

"At the moment, the infrastructure in the area cannot cope with more homes," said Chris Hopper from the Residents Association.

Sufficient services

The provision of doctors and dentists also needs to be considered.

He asked: "Will they be able to cope with the number of residents coming in? The same goes for emergency relief and fire brigade - will these services be enhanced?"

The site, on farm land on the north side of the A141 and opposite the Ermine Street Business Park, was allocated for housing by a planning inspector in 2002.

The Huntingdonshire District Council said it has yet to receive a planning application for the development, but once it does, plans to consult extensively with local bodies including The Stukeleys Parish Council and the Highways Agency.
