Pet dog is fire hero
A family's dog helped save its owners from a suspicious fire in their home by waking them from their sleep.

Morpheus, a Rottweiler, became agitated when smoke started filling the flat in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, at about 0100 BST on Tuesday.

A fire had started by the front door and could have trapped a couple - a man, who is a wheelchair user, and a woman - inside.

But Morpheus, who is named after a character in the Matrix films, woke his owners and they were able to douse the fire with water.

Arson not ruled out

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire Brigade said the fire was being treated as suspicious.

"When we got there the couple were still inside and we broke in through the kitchen window.

"As the only way out was through the front door we assisted the couple out of the property.

"They were both uninjured but were treated for smoke inhalation."

The cause of the fire at the flat near Mutton Gate was still being investigated.

The spokesman added: "Arson hasn't been ruled out."
