Man seriously ill after assault

A man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries after being assaulted in Bristol.

The man, who is in his 50s, was in Anchor Road when he was attacked on Saturday night, police said.

Officers remained at the scene for part of Sunday and Anchor Road was reduced to one lane to allow forensic teams to carry out their investigations.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area until mid afternoon to reduce congestion problems.

In a separate incident a man in his 20s was left with serious head injuries after a hit-and-run crash on Landsdown Road, Kingswood.

The man was hit at about 0315 GMT and has been taken to hospital.

Police are trying to trace a car, believed to be a Volvo, in connection with the accident.
