Children treated after house fire

Smoke damage
The bedroom fire is thought to have been started by a candle

Three young children from Bristol have been treated in hospital after fire broke out in a first-floor bedroom.

Emergency services were called to Ernestville Road, Fishponds, late on Wednesday night.

An Avon Fire and Rescue spokesman said two of the children were suffering from the effects of smoke and the third from burns to his feet.

"It's thought the fire was started after a candle was accidentally knocked over," he said.

"The three children, aged one, two and three years old, were in the house at the time.

"We would remind people to take care with lit candles and always make sure they are properly extinguished after use," he added.
