M4 reopens after brick spillage

The M4 near Bath has returned to normal after a lorry overturned and shed its load of bricks on to the carriageway.

Police said the lorry, which was travelling east, crashed through the central reservation and overturned at junction 18 at 0615 GMT.

Tailbacks were reported back to Leigh Delamere services in Wiltshire and to Pucklechurch in the opposite direction.

At 1210 GMT a Highways Agency spokesman said two lanes of the motorway in both directions - had reopened.

"One lane east and westbound remains closed for repair work," he added.

Supt Andy Pullen, from Avon and Somerset Police, said: "One driver was taken to hospital by ambulance, the injury is not believed to be life threatening."

The injured driver is a man in his 50s.
