Package prompts homes evacuation

Homes were evacuated in part of South Gloucestershire when a "suspicious package" was discovered on the A38.

Gloucester Road North was closed from Gipsy Patch Lane to Station Road for two hours on Thursday afternoon.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said an Army explosives team was called to examine the package which was "deemed to be safe and non suspicious".

Highways Agency officers closed several roads in the area and heavy traffic was reported in much of north Bristol.
