Cyclist injured in emergency call

A cyclist has been hit by an ambulance answering a 999 call in Bristol.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics for shoulder injuries and was then transferred to the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

The incident happened at 0830 BST at the junction of Tower Hill and Narrow Plain just after the ambulance had left the station with its blue lights on.

A spokesman for Great Western Ambulance Service(GWAS) said a thorough internal investigation would be carried out.

The ambulance involved in the accident was on its way to a call from an 80-year-old man who had fallen in his home.

A second vehicle was dispatched by GWAS and arrived with the elderly man within six minutes.
