Sponsorship of the carnival was said to be down because of the recession

Organisers of Bristol's St Pauls Carnival are due to discover later if they are in debt after the event last weekend.

The party went ahead in the city despite a £10,000 funding deficit.

A meeting of the carnival's organising committee to discuss the shortfall in funding is due to take place.

A spokesman for the festival said the weekend's event had gone well but no statement would be issued about monies owed until later on Thursday.
