Postal workers vote for strikes

Postal workers at the Royal Mail depot in Montpelier, Bristol, have voted in favour of strike action over planned job cuts.

More than 100 staff took part in the ballot with dates for the strike due to be announced, a spokesman said.

The strike will mean no deliveries will take place in either the BS6 or BS7 postcode areas of Bristol.

They are in addition to planned strikes on Saturday at the Clevedon, Yatton and Bridgwater depots.

David Wilshire, Branch Secretary of the Bristol and District Communication Workers Union, said: "This is an amazing vote in favour of strike action especially given the intimidation from managers who have urged people to vote no.

"Postal workers in North Bristol have voted to reject further cuts, reject bullying and protect the long-term service to the public."

Workers at an additional 20 Royal Mail delivery depots, as well as those at the Processing Centre at Filton and Distribution depot at Severn Beach, were also due to be balloted for strike action.
