Man in hospital after m-way crash

The accident caused traffic congestion around the Almondsbury interchange

A man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after an accident on the M4 near Bristol.

The man was driving a Volkswagen Polo when the accident happened between junctions 19 and 20.

The eastbound carriageway remained closed for several hours after the accident at 0650 BST.

The spokeswoman appealed for witnesses and added that the injured man had been taken to Frenchay Hospital near Bristol.
