The airline plans to expand its network at 11 bases

European airline Wizz Air is to buy 50 Airbus A320s, it has announced, taking its fleet to 132 aircraft.

The airline plans to expand its network at 11 bases in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.

"It will also allow the airline to add new destinations to its 130 existing routes," a spokesman said.

Parts of the wings for the European Airbus are manufactured at Filton near Bristol.

Last year, Airbus sold a total of 472 single-aisle aircraft and 310 wide-body models, including nine A380 super-jumbos.

The Wizz Air spokesman added: "This new large A320 order will enable us to reinforce a strong position in the region."
