Airport launch for Balloon Fiesta

More than 20 hot air balloons have been taking off from the runway of Bristol International Airport to launch the city's annual Balloon Fiesta.

The balloons took off just after 0500 BST - a time chosen to ensure there was no disruption to flights.

Event director Susan Tanner said they wanted to do something special to launch the fiesta.

"We are delighted to showcase it to a wider international audience," she said.

The Fiesta takes place at Ashton Court between 6 to 9 August.
