Climber helps in mountain rescue

An off-duty lifeboat crew member has told how she helped with the rescue of a climber while taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge.

Sherri Hough-Kiberd of the Portishead Lifeboat was near the top of Ben Nevis in Scotland when another walker fell 150ft from a ledge on the mountain.

She said: "The cliff gave way and she plunged down."

She said the group "swung into action" after the fall on Saturday and used whistles and a radio to alert rescuers.

Ms Hough-Kiberd added: "She was near a ravine and if she'd done another bounce she would have plunged another 400 feet.

"We were worried about hypothermia but the helicopter came and took her to hospital.

"She is now fine. She has some nasty injuries but she is home now."
