The council hopes the wheel will be in place for the summer
Plans for a giant wheel on the seafront at Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset have been submitted to the council.
An application for a temporary 40m (131ft) high observation wheel was submitted by World Tourist Attractions who have several wheels across the UK.
If approved the wheel would be located on the Beach Lawns and would remain in place until 30 November.
North Somerset Council says it hopes to process the application through the normal planning process by 6 April.
Councillor Elfan Ap Rees, of North Somerset Council, said: "Obviously this application has to go through the due planning process but early discussions have indicated that there are no 'show stoppers' at this stage.
"The wheel will also help to offset the temporary loss of the Grand Pier and I am sure will be a popular new attraction for our tourists this coming summer."
