Bafta success for Bristol films

Wallace and Gromit in 'A Matter of Loaf and Death'
Nick Park thanked his team for helping create the winning film

Wallace and Gromit's latest adventure by Bristol-based Aardman Animations has won a Bafta.

'A Matter of Loaf and Death' won the award in the short animation category.

The film, which was the the UK's most watched TV programme over the Christmas holiday, was directed by Nick Park, Steve Pegram and Bob Baker.

The Bristol film-maker Esther May Campbell also won a Bafta in the short film catergory for her film, 'September'.

'Thank you'

'September' tells the story of Marvin who works at a roadside fast food restaurant.

It was also awarded Best British Film at the Encounters International Film Festival 2008. The judges said it , "astonished and delighted us".

Picking up her award Ms Campbell said: "Thank you to our funders who took a punt on quite a difficult film at the Film Council, our small but beautiful cast and crew and everybody back in Bristol and the Cube cinema."

Aardman has previously picked up Best Film in 2006 for Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and was named Independent Production Company of the Year in 2007.

Receiving the Bafta, Nick Park said: "A great big thank you to my wonderful team - all those in Bristol, the animators, the model makers and all those who worked in post and sound and music and lighting - I always feel they are the best team in the world. This is for them - although I'm going to keep it."
