Motorway reopens after gas leak

The accident scene
The accident happened just before 0800 GMT on Wednesday.

Part of the M4 in South Gloucestershire has reopened after liquid propane gas began leaking onto the carriageway when two vehicles collided.

It is thought a goods vehicle carrying the cylinders collided with a van just before 0800 GMT on Wednesday.

Initially police put a 300m (330 yards) cordon around the incident but re-opened the motorway about 1030 GMT.

For a time slip roads onto the M4 from the M5 were closed and the motorway shut between junctions 19 and 20.

Traffic in the area is still reported to be heavy.
