Former mayor's son dies in crash

A cyclist killed in an accident on Bristol's Portway earlier this week was a son of a former Lord Mayor of the city, it has emerged.

Police named the victim as Nicholas Abraham, 29, from Avonmouth.

The climbing instructor was in collision with a car as he rode towards the city centre on Tuesday evening.

He was the son of Conservative city councillor Peter Abraham and his wife, Pearl. Witnesses to the accident, which happened at 1750 GMT, are being sought.

Police investigating the cause of the accident said they first thought the cyclist was a 17-year-old boy.
