Traffic misery at shopping centre

Police in Bristol were advising people in the city to avoid the Cribbs Causeway area as a result of the sheer amount of traffic on Monday.

There were severe delays for motorists at the shopping centre for most of Monday afternoon with some cars remaining stationary for three hours.

One motorist told BBC News: "There were quite a few breakdowns as well which is causing more misery."

At 1935 GMT on Monday the situation was still said to be close to gridlock.
