Cyclist dies after car accident

A cyclist has been killed in a crash with a car on the outskirts of Bristol.

The accident happened on the A370 Long Ashton bypass and caused severe traffic problems in the area.

The cyclist, a 39-year-old man, was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary with serious injuries and died there later.

Police closed the road as they investigated the cause of the accident. The closure caused long delays for commuters who were diverted to the A38.

Anyone who was on the Long Ashton bypass at about 0630 GMT on Monday is asked to contact police.
