Meningitis symptoms sent by text

Meningitis symptoms via text
Students from Bath helped to launch the text message service

A Bristol-based charity has started a text message service to help people who fear they may have meningitis.

The Meningitis Research Foundation is targeting the most at-risk groups, including teenagers and young adults.

Those worried they may have the disease can send a text message to receive one back with details of the symptoms.

Meningitis Research Foundation chief executive Chris Head said: "Time is critical when dealing with meningitis and septicaemia."

He added: "This simple new service will put life-saving information one text away for those who are most vulnerable to the diseases."

To receive symptoms, a text message containing the letters MRF should be sent to the number 82088. Standard rate charges apply.
