Man arrested in stolen car death

Green Close, Horfield
Mr Bollen was pronounced dead at the scene

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of an elderly man who was run down as he tried to stop his car being stolen in Bristol.

Walter Bollen, 76, was struck in Green Close, Horfield just after 2330 GMT on Saturday. He was declared dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old local man was arrested on Tuesday morning.

Det Ch Insp Richard Kelvey said: "We are still in the very early stages and the work is only just beginning."

Mr Kelvey, of Avon and Somerset Police, continued: "I am extremely grateful for the tremendous co-operation we have received from local people so far.

"Some of this co-operation has provided us with the intelligence and information that helped lead to the arrest today.

"I can only repeat what I have said before, in that we want to hear from absolutely everybody who has any information whatsoever - even if you think it is some information that we may have been repeatedly told already - we would rather have the same piece of information several times over than not at all.

"People may also think that their little piece of information is too small or insignificant, particularly upon hearing we have made an arrest.

"I would appeal to these people, and I would say that they should let us be the judge of the significance of their information."
